Hennings’ Vineyard was established by Henning Rathjen in 1858. We produce small quantities of premium Heathcote Shiraz, Viognier and Verdelho wines.

THE LONE VINE

"The Lone Vine" Shiraz - Henning Rathjen planted his vineyard in the late 1860's and one "lone vine" remains on our property. This premium wine is a link to our historical past. It is minimally fined and filtered to maximise flavour and concentration. It displays the customary Hennings deep colour with intense blackberry jube, spice, anise and cedary oak characters. Fabulous palate weight, power, intensity, silky dry tannins with an incredibly long finish. Decant if drinking now or cellar up to 20 years.
HENNINGS SHIRAZ
Award winning
An award winning wine from our Estate Shiraz. Intensely black/purple in colour with aromas of blackberry, five spice and quality oak. The palate is medium to full bodied, beautifully balanced with intense flavour concentration and a long, silky finish. 30% new French oak used. Decant if drinking now or cellar for 10 years.
HENNINGS CROQUET
New in 2010
This wine has been made as a lighter, more medium bodied Shiraz suitable for earlier drinking. Multi-layered blackberry, prune, blackcurrant and spice on the supple palate, together with splashes of anise and licorice. A long finish with fine-grained tannins. 15% new French oak used.
HENNINGS VIOGNIER
Our favourite
A variety that is suited to the warm growing conditions of Heathcote wine region. This wine displays aromas and flavours of honeysuckle and apricots. The palate is textural and complex due to 40% oak barrel maturity. Drinking well now and will age for another few years.
HENNINGS VERDELHO
A must have
Lovely tropical fruits and floral notes are key to this variety. 40% of the wine was matured in oak to add an extra weight and dimension to the wine.
CELLAR
Hennings' 1870's wine Cellar is open
After many long years of restoration, Hennings’ original wine cellar was re-opened in 2012 for tastings and wine sales. This historic building is unique amongst the cellar doors in the Heathcote wine region.
The cellar was built in the 1870’s from red-gum milled on the property. It is a structure that tells a story of labour and persistence in the difficult times of early settlement.
The Cellar is open by appointment.
